- ὀπαῖος (ὀπή): with an opening; neut. pl. as subst., ἀν' ὀπαῖα (v. l. ἀνοπαῖα, q. v.), through the loop-holes, i. e. between the rafters under the eaves, Od. 1.320†. These spaces were in later times closed, and termed specifically μετόπαι. (See cut No. 83.)
